This is a review of the Kinugawa Onsen Asaya Hotel (鬼怒川温泉あさやホテル), a symbol of the 1990s bubble period in Japan.

We introduce the shuhokan lobby atrium built at $50 million, the VIP room of Hachibankan where I stayed, the facilities in the hotel, dinner in a private room, and the breakfast buffet.

■ History
1888 – Zenpachi Yagisawa founded Asaya Ryokan in Kinugawa Onsen.
1972 – Built a new Keifukan with 11 floors above ground.
1973 – Built Kanzankan with 2 basement floors and 11 floors above ground.
1977 – Newly built Hachibankan with 2 floors underground and 7 floors above ground.
1990 – Shuhokan (12 floors above ground) was newly built.
2005 – With the support of the Industrial Revitalization Corporation, debt waiver and separation of old and new were implemented. In July, Hachibankan was renewed, Keifukan was dismantled, and Kanzankan was changed to an employee dormitory (later dismantled).

■歴史
1888年 – 八木澤善八により、鬼怒川温泉に「麻屋旅館」を創業。
1972年 – 地上11階建の渓風館を新築。
1973年 – 地下2階地上11階の観山館を新築。
1977年 – 地下2階地上7階の八番館を新築。
1990年 – 秀峰館（地上12階）を新築。
2005年 – 産業再生機構の支援により債権放棄と新旧分離を実施。7月に八番館をリニューアル、渓風館と解体、観山館を従業員寮に変更し（後に解体）、再建前は4館で360あった客室数を規模を縮小。
