혼자여도 행복해! 도쿄에서 치앙마이 여행 브이로그 ep.1 🐘🇹🇭
Summer vacation — I’m off to Chiang Mai! There’s no direct flight from Tokyo to Chiang Mai, so I’m connecting in Bangkok. I ordered an iced café latte from AirAsia out of curiosity. Regretted it immediately after the first sip. Why does this coffee smell like gasoline…? Arrived in Bangkok an hour earlier than scheduled! Since my luggage is checked through automatically, I headed to immigration empty-handed. So nervous~~ TMI: My first-ever transit flight. Turned out it wasn’t a big deal (lol). I didn’t have any cash, so first things first — withdrawing some baht. For my 8-night, 10-day trip, I exchanged about ¥60,000 worth, but only withdrew ¥40,000 for now. After getting cash, I wandered around Don Mueang Airport. There’s actually a lot here. But I skipped everything and headed straight to 7-Eleven! Found the beer I’d been curious about and grabbed it right away. If you ever see Chang Espresso in Thailand, definitely try it! (Highly recommend!) Finally got the toast I’d been craving 🥪 They took my water during immigration, so I bought a new one. Also picked up mosquito repellent spray to be ready for tomorrow! Whenever I arrive in Thailand, I always grab toast from 7-Eleven first thing. I usually get ham & cheese, but this time I went with the croissant spinach one. They warm it up for you and it’s seriously delicious. For a palate cleanser — Chatramue milk tea. I figured if I didn’t drink it now, I might not drink it at all during the trip (lol). (And yeah, I really didn’t drink it again after this.) Since it’s a domestic flight, the lounge was lame and going out wasn’t worth it. Spent what felt like an eternity — five whole hours… Finally, boarding for the domestic flight started 😭 After a long 13-hour journey, I finally arrived in Chiang Mai! ✨ An airport staff member was waiting to greet me when I got off. Transit passengers from international to domestic flights were gathered and guided to baggage claim. Someone who found everything about her first transit experience totally new 🙋♀️ My suitcase got pretty dirty, but I’m just glad it arrived safely. There are Grab and Bolt rides, but I went with the airport’s fixed-rate taxi for convenience. Everything’s going smoothly — perfect! Once you exit from Gate 1 and hand the paper to the staff, your taxi will be arranged right away. This trip is 8 nights and 10 days — I’ll be spending 3 of those nights with a friend. Finally arrived at my first solo accommodation. Here we go—checking in! This is the Malee Hotel, Superior King Room, where I’ll be staying for 3 nights. Just as the reviews said—clean and spacious! Totally satisfied ♡ Day 1 ended just with travel. My first morning waking up in Chiang Mai. (It’s pretty gloomy~) I’d heard about the local water quality, so I brought a shower filter all the way from Korea. After just two uses… it already looked like this. Good call bringing it, I guess lol. OOTD check before heading out ✔️ (my usual all-white look) It was dark when I arrived yesterday, so I couldn’t see the view in front of the hotel. There’s a 7-Eleven about a 5-minute walk away—not super close but convenient enough. Just grabbed some water for now, then called a Grab to go have breakfast. A must-visit spot in Chiang Mai for me: Gopuek Godam. Without hesitation, I ordered their most popular item — the 4-color custard cream. And added a fried egg on the side. Actually, years ago I came across this café on Instagram, and that’s how I first discovered Chiang Mai. So it’s a bit of a meaningful place for me — that’s why I made it my first stop! (TMI) The steamed bread was moist and chewy. I dipped it generously into the cream and took a big bite. The blue one was the tastiest; the others were just okay. Taste aside, it was such a happy breakfast for me personally ♡ I was originally planning to walk 5 minutes to Street Coffee Crew afterward, but I changed plans last minute and went to a different café instead. It was a bit far, and I felt like if I didn’t go now, I might not get another chance! The interior had a European atmosphere. Ahh… too cute… Surprisingly, it wasn’t crowded, which made it even nicer. Khop khun ka 🙏 Seriously, there’s not a single corner here that isn’t cute 😭 Sweet peach iced tea flavor. It was so cozy that I relaxed too much and ended up almost late for my next plan ;; A cute cat guarding the entrance. When I tried to step inside after changing into slippers, another one appeared (lol). Excuse me for a moment. Glad I resisted the urge to redo my nails before the trip. Gel removal + nail art + magnetic pedicure + foot spa — all for just about ¥4,300! It’s been over three weeks now, and all ten nails are still perfectly intact ✨ The café I wanted to visit turned out to be only a 4-minute walk from the nail salon — perfect! Perfect route planning 🤭 Finally trying the famous orange coffee! I’ve honestly been curious about it for so long. I mixed it well, just like they told me to, and took a sip— Wow, it’s so good! It’s like my eyes went 🍊_🍊 from the flavor (lol). I decided I’m going to drink a lot of these while I’m in Chiang Mai. It had been cloudy all day, but suddenly the sky cleared up like magic ☀️ No time to rest—off to the next plan! I ordered the beef noodles without hesitation. A small and cozy restaurant. It’s known for being slow to serve, but since I went during a quiet hour, my food came in just 10 minutes. The soup—unbelievably good!! The noodles had soaked up the broth perfectly—delicious even on their own. And the meat was so tender 🥹 Halfway through, I customized it with some sauce. Thai chili powder, and prik som (chili vinegar). Adding a little spice made it ten times tastier. I was torn between this and a Pad Thai place—but coming here was the right choice. Finished the whole bowl, sweating but satisfied ✌ I wanted to come back later in the trip, but sadly it was closed that day 😭 Still regret missing it. Walked slowly to a pharmacy afterward to help with digestion. Shopping at a pharmacy I’d been eyeing even before the trip. Got Bepanthen, Strepsils, and acne ointment—things you can’t buy in Japan—for cheap! Squeezed in a foot massage despite the packed schedule. They even complimented my feet, saying they looked clean—thanks to the foot spa this morning 🤭 A little luxury for 350 baht (around ¥1,600). Starting to doze off… All the fatigue melted away. Heading back to the hotel with lighter feet Everyone’s busy preparing for the Sunday Market I’ll come back later Had just some yogurt at the hotel, then went out again A cat showed up like it was part of the plan Hey there? Just walking around here feels so healing and makes me happy ♡ It’s only the first day but I’m already obsessed with the Old Town I just came to check the prices, but somehow I ended up buying it lol Wanted to try a smaller one first anyway When I got to Tha Phae Gate, it was already packed from the entrance So this is where all the tourists were hiding! You can’t call it sightseeing without eating, right? Started walking around while eating freshly fried, crispy sweet potato balls Chiang Mai is known for its silver, but of course, I couldn’t find anything I liked today Guess I’ll just look at something cute instead Spotted some mini magnets I kinda wanted Are these from Temu or something? lol Tiny keychains that look like they came out of a capsule toy machine Would look perfect on my bike key Got it for 10 baht (around ¥40 / $0.30) The night market even stretches into the temple grounds — so Chiang Mai! Since the rain started pouring harder, I just grabbed a mango and hurried back to the hotel Picked up my Grab order of Chang Phuak Suki as soon as I got back I was supposed to eat there, but because of the rain I decided to enjoy it quietly in my room No hesitation—added the sauce right away This was the one everyone said was so good, and I’d been curious about it Totally get the hype 👌 If you add all the sauce it gets salty, so better taste as you go lol The mala skewers I ordered with the suki arrived quite a bit later It’s like a second round — honestly, I don’t mind that! Finished it off with the mango I bought at the night market and fell fast asleep Heading out for a morning run now! Since I’m in Chiang Mai, I have to try the “Square Running” at least once Running a lap around the Old Town moat is about 6 km — just the right distance But with all those narrow streets and no traffic lights, it felt kinda life-threatening lol Phew… made it back alive ✌️ I only brought 7 baht (around ¥30 / $0.20) in my pocket, thinking I’d just buy some water after What a refreshing morning Back, showered, and ready to head out again! (Maybe the water here doesn’t suit me… something popped up on my arm) Oh—there’s a cat! Okay okay, I won’t film you 💦 Something I realized after walking around all day yesterday It’s actually safer to walk on the road than on the sidewalk here After about 20 minutes of walking, finally arrived! This place is a Khao Kha Moo (stewed pork leg on rice) shop in the Santitham area The place is clean, and the owner is super kind..! Starting off with some protein~ Tender pork leg with sweet-savory sauce — how could that not be delicious? Pretty sure anyone would love this flavor Added a little prik nam pla (chili with fish sauce) halfway through I’m the type who needs a bit of spice to keep things interesting till the end Now I’m craving it again just watching this footage… 🥺 Got some mango jelly on my way back Feeling good and full, I’m off to a café I’d bookmarked before the trip Ordered an orange americano Compared to yesterday’s coffee, this one’s more acidic and seems a bit fizzy too Ended up chatting for about an hour with someone I shared a table with 😂 Had no plans afterward, so I decided to stop by a nearby temple (…Actually, I just needed the restroom lol) The weather was sunny, and the temple looked even more exotic under the light Oh, Wat Lok Moli has free admission by the way There was a Buddha statue on top of a stone stupa, and people were pulling strings as offerings I just cheered them on from the side (lol) Not sure what it was for, but everyone rang the bell once, so I did too… Didn’t have enough strength 😂 Hope all our wishes come true 🙏 I wanted to look around more, but the sun was just too strong So I called a bike and escaped to Maya Mall on impulse I was thinking I should take taxis as much as possible, just in case something happened. But after a while, I started to feel like it was a waste to take taxis all by myself 🙄 Long distances still scare me though, so from now on, I’ll only take short rides. This is a famous Pad Thai stall in the food court on the 4th floor of Maya Mall. Among Koreans, it’s nicknamed “Tattoo Guy Pad Thai” (lol), but he wasn’t there that day… such a shame. You add the toppings yourself. One plate of Pad Thai costs 65 baht — about ¥300. And it actually tastes great! It was way better than the ¥1,000 Pad Thai I used to eat near my office (no surprise there). Finished it in seconds. Since I was here, I stopped by Rimping Mart in the basement. I just checked out what to buy next time and grabbed a dragon fruit to eat at the hotel. While I was in Nimman, I decided to visit a shop I’d saved on my map. It’s a cute little general store located right across from Maya Mall. They had tons of adorable poster and postcard designs. I was torn about buying a T-shirt… but I had a feeling I’d come back, so I decided to hold off for now. I just bought some postcards and stickers as gifts. Compared to the Old Town, Nimman had way more trendy and stylish stores. Next stop — Graph Coffee, known as one of Chiang Mai’s top three coffee spots. They have so many kinds of drinks, but I went for their most famous one — the charcoal (Monochrome) latte. But… did you know? This one cup of coffee costs more than my breakfast and two lunches combined… (160 baht ≈ ¥730). Coffee and alcohol prices here are totally Seoul-level. After six hours out, I finally went back to the hotel. Didn’t even have time to sit down — just removed my makeup, changed into workout clothes, and headed out again. Busy, busy Chiang Mai trip. On the way to yoga, I stopped by a T-shirt shop I’d been eyeing before. Wanted something long enough to cover my hips (lol). Finished shopping in five minutes and headed to my yoga class 🛵 Calm Village — a cultural complex in the southern part of Old Town. You can do sunset yoga on the terrace on the 3rd floor with this painting-like view. After yoga, lying down and meditating with the singing bowls… it was truly amazing 🤍 If you ever come to Chiang Mai, you have to try it! Riding my bike after sweating felt so refreshing. (( A silent scream of pure happiness )) Wait—this road is the same one I ran on this morning! That realization weirdly made me so happy ⤴ To celebrate my first proper dinner out, I toasted to myself 🍺 It took a little while for the food to come out, but since K-drama OSTs were playing, I didn’t feel lonely (lol). The portion was bigger than I expected. Even the small size was packed with ingredients. It was my first time trying Massaman curry — mild, a bit spicy, and totally my taste. I think I might actually like coconut-based dishes. I’d get tired if I only had curry, so ordering som tam too was definitely the right move. Two dishes, a small portion of rice, and a beer — about ¥1,400 (roughly $9). No matter how full I am, the Michelin-starred roti is still happening as planned..☆ While waiting for my order, I went next door and found Chang Espresso beer! The convenience store near my hotel doesn’t sell beer, so I decided to grab some here. When I got back, the famous “grandma boss” herself had arrived at work. I went before 8 p.m. and waited about 20 minutes, but if it’s crowded, it can take up to an hour. Finally, it’s my turn! Thank you! Freshly fried, piping hot, and crispy banana Nutella roti. Gone in three minutes. To walk it off, I headed to the massage shop I’d booked for 9 p.m. The main streets in Old Town are well lit and have enough traffic, so it didn’t feel scary at all, even at night. The scariest things I ran into while walking weren’t ghosts or people — it was cockroaches and 🐀… Arrived! I found this place near The Marry Hotel. Got a 2-hour combo — foot, Thai, and shoulder & back oil massage (790 baht ≈ ¥3,700 ≈ $25). The pressure was a bit too strong… kinda painful 🥲 Went back, had a little midnight snack, and wrapped up day 3. Woke up at 7 again and headed out before 9. It’s check-out day — time to move to the next hotel. Goodbye, Marry Hotel — everything was great except for the fridge noise (lol) 👋 Left my suitcase at the front desk and went off cheerfully for breakfast. Couldn’t decide between a smoothie bowl or an açaí bowl. Since I can have açaí bowls in Tokyo too, I went with the green smoothie bowl. Wasn’t totally sure about my choice when I ordered, but it turned out so good! The avocado topping surprisingly goes well, and it’s genuinely delicious. I can’t believe this portion and quality only cost about ¥400 (≈$2.5) 🥹 I really regretted not ordering more smoothie bowls after I got back. I started making up reasons to go back to Chiang Mai (lol). On the way from Khun Kae to the next café. I really wanted to go here too, but didn’t manage to… (full of regret…) Bart Coffee was crowded, so I decided to try Deep Diviner across the street first. A stationery and miscellaneous goods shop with such cute wood-toned interiors. Even though I never use notebooks, seeing them made me want one. My favorite was a notebook with a wooden cover. Even the paper inside looked stylish. Even here, my eyes keep going to the tableware. The prices were reasonable and cute, but I didn’t find “the one,” so I left without buying anything. Then I lined up at Bart Coffee, and… The woman I had met for three consecutive days treated me to coffee..! 🥹 She said it was to thank me for taking her photo after yoga yesterday… Coming alone made it possible to have encounters like this — my heart felt so warm from the morning. Thank you 🫶🏻 I packed this happiness tightly and left my little trace (?) behind. Arrived at my next hotel, Buri Ratana Hotel. Staying consecutive nights alone feels a bit much, so I justified it as a treat to myself and booked only one night. When booking with breakfast included, you choose your menu in advance at check-in. As expected from a hotel famous for brunch — just seeing it, you can tell the quality is different. (Seriously contemplating) When I went to use the restroom after check-in, I was amazed to see such a beautiful pool… Back at the lobby, they told me the room was ready, and at 11 a.m., I was guided to my room!! 🤍 Even the hallway is full of style. The most standard type — Superior King Room. Compared to the Marry Hotel, this feels like a palace… (lol) There’s also a city-view terrace. Checking the fridge. Of course the water, drinks, and snacks are all free 🤭 The bathroom is behind the minibar. The sink is cute too. I love everything — the vibe and the condition of the room..! ✨ I even did a room tour, and now it’s time to start the afternoon schedule. My first waiting experience in Chiang Mai. Waited about 30 minutes. The hand-drawn artwork is adorable. Here it is, my favorite — Gapao Rice (Pad Krapow Moo Sap) 🐷🌿 This is the best Gapao Rice I’ve ever had.. 🥹 You can adjust the spiciness — mild is about the level of spicy ramen. I think I could handle a bit spicier, so next time I’ll try medium. The standard route is to eat Gapao at this place and then stop by Calm Village right next door. I tried entering the shops on the first and second floors that I couldn’t see yesterday. Found a T-shirt at a clothing shop on the first floor. The design is cute, the fabric is good (about ¥2,000–3,000). I had planned to go to the library on the second floor after seeing this, but… I completely forgot and just left 💦 Well, that’s one more reason to come back. Busy moving again. Found a highly-rated spot and got a Thai massage walk-in. It wasn’t as painful as yesterday, and I felt refreshed — very satisfied..! Time to get some caffeine soon. When it comes to Chiang Mai cafes, you can’t miss Akha Ama Coffee. Compared to the Bart Coffee I had in the morning, this had a richer milk and coffee flavor. It’s hard to say which is better between the dirty lattes. I wanted to get back to the hotel quickly, so I gulped it down and left. (Seeing the Muay Thai youth at night is kind of scary, lol) Picked up some mango sticky rice for a snack along the way~ Also grabbed a plumeria that had fallen on the street~ Every place my feet take me is happiness 🤍 Actually… I’m not really a fan of mango sticky rice 🙄 But I thought maybe it would be different from a famous shop, so I bought one. Still, my preference didn’t change. At the poolside, I’m the type to skip swimming, eat mango, and lie on a sunbed — that’s me. Since it’s a “hokans” day, I deliberately planned nothing and just lounged around. Kind of bored, though. I thought about ordering dinner on Grab, but nope, can’t do it. I’m going out. Called a taxi and heading to Nimmanhemin — GoGo! The spicy sauce that comes with the roast chicken was the real flavor kick. The chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside — exquisite. And my favorite, corn som tam 🌽 If you love corn, you definitely have to order this. The popping texture and sweet-savory sauce are irresistible. Since I was already out, I decided to check out a nearby jazz bar. With an hour to kill before the show, the vintage market at One Nimman appeared at just the right time. Perfect for strolling and killing time. I wanted a beaded bracelet and necklace, but I know I’d never wear them at home… So I resisted the impulse buy. ~First time entering a jazz bar alone in my life~ The performance that day was by a 3D band called the “Chiang Mai Idols”! Everyone’s individuality was amazing. Their genuine enjoyment was contagious — I had so much fun watching 🕺♪♪ Came back and had a drink alone. Went to bed at 2 a.m.,, Woke up at 7. No matter how late I sleep, oversleeping on a trip? Impossible. Forced myself up and ran to the park… And found the ultimate healing spot. Running while soaking in the sunrise felt exhilarating — endorphins exploding!! 💥💥 Felt amazing, couldn’t stop smiling. Showered, and now it’s breakfast time. Took a seat by the window with a great view. Each room can order 2 menu items and up to 4 drinks, so I went ahead and ordered 4 drinks (lol). Yes, I’m a greedy one~ Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like everyone passing by is glancing at my table 🙄 One of the coffees I ordered was for takeout, so I thought they’d hand it to me when I left. Tried to cover it up with three, but the plan failed (lol) Finished everything cleanly, including the homemade granola yogurt for dessert I did my best not to leave anything behind Last relaxing time on the sunbed Bittersweet, but it’s almost checkout time I’ll be back… 🥹 Moving to the third hotel Only 4 minutes on foot in a straight line, but the bumpy road made it tough Ah, exhausted Checked in at lightning speed Strolled around Old Town until the room was ready 🚶 This streetscape feels so nostalgic A café with an astonishing Google rating of 4.9 I’ve awakened to the charm of orange coffee in Chiang Mai As expected from a specialty coffee shop, the espresso tasted the richest here Still, for now, Areemitr Coffee holds my number one spot Lunch menu: Michelin-rated oden noodles I realized I hadn’t had Tom Yum Goong even once since arriving (Technically it’s different) Tried the Tom Yum soup and it was exactly my taste 🎯 Sour and spicy, yet refreshing A few years ago I couldn’t eat cilantro or Tom Yum Goong, but tastes change, huh The oden was chewy and delicious too The shrimp balls everyone raved about were surprisingly just average for me But overall, I was satisfied 😋 If Buri Ratana Hotel is modern, Aksara Heritage has an antique vibe Here too, all drinks and snacks are free Rooms facing the street even came with earplugs Lying on the sofa bed, this feels like heaven During free time, I also ordered dessert via Grab Most popular shops deliver, so it’s super convenient Coconut chunks were packed under the thick cream First bite — smooth, nutty cream, I was impressed Gradually it got heavy, and without an iced Americano, it was tough X﹏X Without time to digest, headed to the massage shop I had booked Is this when my streak of bad luck started…? The best massage shop of this trip 💆♀️✨ I had an aroma oil massage, with perfect hand pressure that loosened every part of me Pure bliss After the massage, went to see the sunset at Ankao Dam, Chiang Mai University I was incredibly lucky with the weather, especially for the rainy season Thanks to that, I fully enjoyed the sunset 🧡🧡 From tomorrow, I’ll be busier with friends, so this solo time felt even more precious I thought the first half of the trip ended perfectly, but Feeling nauseous from the car ride marked the start of my health troubles… At first, it was just slight stomach discomfort, so I still checked out the night market and did some shopping I’ll use this when I go in the pool Got a matching one for my friend too Then on the taxi back to the hotel, I started breaking out in a cold sweat… The moment I got out, I threw up everything and collapsed onto the bed Everything had been so happy, and then suddenly ended with acute gastroenteritis — what even is that (lol) Did I manage to survive this crisis…? Stay tuned for the second half of the trip..! 😘

It's so great that you can take a trip where you're solo for most of the trip and thoroughly enjoy yourself. In a tourist destination like Chiang Mai. I'd feel self-conscious the whole time. Of course, I know intellectually that other guests couldn't care — indeed, depending on their partner, they may secretly envy my single status!😀. But I just can't get over that hump. I thus miss out on all that great food at great prices that I enjoyed watching you relish.😀
体調が悪くて寝込んでましたが、動画を見て癒されました( ; ; )チェンマイ行ってみたい…♡part2も楽しみにしてます😌
