ナチョ・アベレージ・タコス!一口で虜になる

So, let’s go in for the fish taco. Here we go. Okay, that’s good. That’s really good. Look at the size of those shrimp in there. They’re big. There’s three shrimp and um I think these things are three bucks each. And this one’s really good. Not a lot of toppings on it, though. You’ll see. Oh. Oh, man. I bit the my shrimp bit the dust. Welcome to another episode of Dave and Kathy Unplugged, where I find myself here in New Haven, Connecticut at what is called food truck heaven. Some of you may have seen the recent tour that I took in uh of New Haven with Bruce Becker, the owner of the Marcel Hotel in the in the Hyundai Ionic 9. Um where he drove me by Worcester Street uh seeing Sally’s a pizza and and Frank Pepes and he also took me over here by Longworf which is basically the Long Island Sound. this is where most of the petroleum comes into uh into this area and and I said, you know, we just drove by it that day. So anyway, I said, I got to come back here. I got to try these food trucks. And uh this has been around since the 1980s. On any given day, and this is a beautiful day here in September, there’s anywhere between 20 and 30 food trucks. Uh mostly Latin American, Caribbean, empanadas, tacos, think that. And uh it looks like there’s competition. These guys are out here trying to Look, he’s saying, “Hey, come on in here. Buy my food.” So, let’s go ahead and take a tour of all these different food trucks. And you know what? I’m hungry. So, let’s grab some lunch. So, you can see right across the street from all the food trucks is a beautiful spot to eat all your food, right? And uh you’ve got see the air the jet airplane coming in over there. This is a Tweed airport which is actually now getting lots and lots of new new uh flights are coming into Tweed and they’re going to be expanding Tweed Airport. But uh yeah, this is this is New Haven, Connecticut, home of Yale University, home of the pizza capital of the country. And of course, we’ve got food truck heaven here. So look at this. Right off of 95. I mean, this is at basically it’s at the junction of 91 and 95 right over there. If you see it, you can actually go up towards um New London. If you go straight and on 95 north, but if you get on 91 north, you’re going to be going up to Hartford. So, it’s at a major intersection here. And let’s see. I don’t know if I can count all the food trucks that are here, but you can see they start right over there. I’ve got my my Model 3 over there somewhere right in front of Le Patrona’s cart food truck. And then they start. Look at this. Look at this. Look at all these food trucks. Lot of competition here, folks. So, and they just keep going and going and going. So, what I’m gonna do is uh I’m gonna take the walk up and then I’m gonna pick one and I’m gonna see which one I I’m feeling like tacos, but I can’t have spicy. Those of you who know me, I can’t have spice. So, wish me luck here. Let’s get into this. [Music] Oh man, I just walked I walked up and down the street here. I’m all confused. I don’t know which one to go to. There’s so many. You can see kind of the ones where there’s more people there. But I’m not sure if that was like one family because they’re like chatting away. It’s like it’s unbelievable what it’s not just good food. There’s good camaraderie going on here as well. But I think I’m going to go for the one right by my car cuz they’re working it. They got three people out there with menus and they’re hustling and uh there were a lot of people there. So I think I’m going to do that. But there’s there’s some more down here on this end here at uh Food Truck Heaven in New Haven. Is that supposed to rhyme? So many to choose from, but I went with La Patrona right there. Carlos is the owner. He saw me film it a couple times and he was like, “Hey, come on over here.” But honestly, oh, look at this here. How cool is that? Dune buggy. Dune buggy. But um yeah, he was like, um, you know, there was a lot of people at his place. It’s It’s a little bit dying down now, but so you could get five tacos for 10 bucks, $2 each. And these are the little tacos, the little cornmeal tacos where they double up on them and they So I got a beef, a chicken, and a pork taco. And Carlos, he he told me they’re not going to be spicy. So I I hope that that’s cuz cuz it is not it’s not good when it’s spicy with Dave. Um but then instead of getting two additional ones like brisket or something like that, I decided to get a fish and a shrimp taco. Now, those are a little bit more money. Um, which is fine. And then, uh, hey, what’s going on? All right, there we are. And so, so what I did was I got a shrimp and a fish taco. And, and it was a little more money. So, the whole thing, 16 bucks, including a pineapple soda, which I don’t know that I’ve ever had pineapple soda, but Carlos, he’s from Mexico. He claims he knows what he’s doing. So, we’ll see. Um, stay tuned for the review. One of the things that’s nice is the city of New Haven has actually installed all these 30 amp charging stations. So, this is a eaten marine power and lighting. This is what you typically see. And you can see that you can plug in right over there. So, in the case of Carlos’s, uh, he’s able to plug right in and get the power right into his unit right there. So, he doesn’t have to run a generator or propane. So, it’s kind of uh, I was going to say it’s quiet. Whoa, look at that. I was going to say it’s quiet, but it’s not quiet. What’s going on here is it’s loud, but at least you don’t hear the generators and they’re not ripping through propane. So, hats off to the city of New Haven. Bruce Becker, the owner of the Marcel Hotel, which you can see literally right over there. I’ll show you. You can see through those trees, that’s the Marcel Hotel right there. Um when we drove by here, Bruce said that this is like the single highest concentration of of these types of marine uh power in in you know installs so that all these food trucks can actually run their businesses there. So I think that was that was a really uh really good thing that they did that there. So uh can’t wait for the food. Hey buddy. Hey. How’s it going? You come down to get some tacos, huh? Oh, yes. What a good puppy. Enjoy, guys. All right, so the table is set and I’m ready to go. Like, you know, here’s another thing for my uh 3W floor mats, which you uh I’ll put a link in the description below. Floor mats for any car. This is great because I’ve set the table here. Look at this right here. We’ve got a This is the fish taco. This is the shrimp taco. And notice the the way they double up, right? This is what I like. They double up on on the actual tacos and soft tacos. Then I’ve got a This is a beef taco. Actually, I think I got a steak taco, a chicken taco, and a pork taco there. And then you have your two different sauces. Carlos assures me no spice. The shrimp look a little suspect. I don’t know. And I may have to call him out on that one. But um yeah, you’ve got uh this this he said that’s hot. Stay away from that. And I I don’t know about that. Those are probably the sleeper ones that’ll get you really good. And then there’s my CNC pineapple soda. So, it’s time. I’m ready to dig in. Which one should I go for first? I think I’m going to do the pork. Let’s go. First thing you got to do is you got to take the lime and the coconut. No, the lime. And you got you got to definitely put some some lime on there. Look at this. Oh, yeah. That’s what I’m talking about. All right. I’m I’m a big lime fan. And just do that on all these right here. Okay, those are primed. Couple little slices of cucumber. I don’t know why they give you that. Maybe just keep it honest. Say you ate your vegetables. But um yeah, I’m ready to dig in. This looks beautiful. This is the double taco soft taco from uh La Patrona. And uh this is the pork one. So, I’m going to give this I’m going to give this a bite right here. Okay. Okay. Here’s the deal. Very moist. Sometimes pork cannot be moist. That’s number one. Number two, raw onions. I like the raw onions on there. Very good. It has some green stuff. I don’t really taste that. I guess maybe that’s just for uh that’s more show than go. But um very very good. So I don’t get full. I’m going to put the pork down. I’m going to move on to Let me move on to the beef now. All right. I don’t know what’s going on behind me over here. There’s This guy’s selling all kinds of stuff on the street, but basically we’ve got the We got the beef beef one right here. See if you can see that. And the onions again with the green stuff that I don’t know maybe show. I’m ready. I’m going in. Mhm. I got to ask Carlos, was that the beef or the steak? It’s not like when you go to Taco Bell and they got that I don’t know what the heck that is. like that ground beef with the This is fresh. See if you can see it right there. It’s really fresh, but I’m not sure which it is. Hey, Carlos, quick. Is this What kind of Is this steak or beef? Steak. Steak. Okay. Good. Good. Good. All right. So, there you have it. It’s It’s steak. Okay. I wasn’t sure here. Here’s the transaction going on over here. They’re closing a mortgage here. I don’t know what’s going on. That That was the steak and it was good. It was uh again um not super moist, but not super dry either. I would say that was spot on. That was pretty good. Next up is the chicken. Now, you can see the chicken. It looks like it’s pulled chicken. Um it looks like it’s a combination of white maybe and dark meat. But let’s let’s try this one out. Here we go. Yeah, you know, that’s good. Um, it’s chicken. I can’t wait for the shrimp and the fish. Look at this guy right here. Whoa. Look at that. So, um, yeah, not bad. If you like chicken, you’re going to like this. I just think uh I’m more into the pork and uh the beef so far, the steak. All right, so the last two are fish here and shrimp there. Oh boy. Oh boy. Look at this. Oh yeah, baby. So, I think I’m going to go for the fish first because that way if the if the shrimp is spicy, then I can call 911 and make it there by dinner time. All right. Well, one thing’s for sure, the fish taco, this thing must weigh about a pound. It’s the biggest one by far. So, you can rank them by size. The fish taco, now the fish taco has some kind of a white sauce on it. I don’t know if you can see that right there, but um I’m going in and I have high expectations for this fish taco. I’m just going to do one bite here because uh again I’m getting full. I’ve already had how many I have? Three bites. I actually ate a little more of the chicken one than I should have. So, let’s go in for the fish taco. Here we go. Okay, that’s good. That’s really good. But the thing you need to realize is that is it’s fried fish. It’s not grilled fish. I can ask I could ask um Carlos if he does grilled fish. I like the fried fish. That’s what makes it really good. So far, this fish taco, that’s my number one. It’s massive. That’s number one. And number two, it’s really good. It’s really soft and fresh. All right. Well, this is it. This is the last one. This is the shrimp taco. It’s gonna be tough to compete with that fish taco. I may just have eaten the best taco I’ve ever had in my life. Um, and I have a very good database for food upstairs in the Old Brain. And that is definitely top three, if not number one. It’s excellent. But the jury is still out. It’s time for the shrimp taco. Now, look at the size of these shrimp that are in here. Really good. Again, I’m a little wary about the redness on the outside. I’m hoping that’s not spicy, not only for uh me, but for all these people around me because it’s not good. Um, here we go. I’m going in. [Music] All right, here we go. Shrimp taco number two, fish taco by far number one, beef taco number three, pork taco number four, chicken taco number five. There you have it, folks. In order of my rankings, if you want, and there’s so many food trucks here. I’m sure they all have really good stuff, but when I come back here, I’m probably just going to get those fish tacos again from uh Le Patronona. Excellent. All right. So, I was just talking to Carlos. He says the cheesy bira is like the specialty of the truck, not the house. And um and I told him the fish taco was the best I’ve had. But they have a lot of other stuff here, too. So, when you’re in New Haven, be sure to check it out. The other thing is he will make the fish taco, not fried if you want it. He’ll do grilled for you, which is good. But, uh I kind of like the fries. Food heaven. Food truck heaven in New Haven, I should say. I’ve covered it. I’ve always wanted to cover it. Um, and today I did. So, thanks again to everyone for watching another episode of Dave and Kathy Unplugged. Today I’m plugging in the fish taco into my mouth and I can’t wait to finish that one. Talk to you later. Bye-bye. [Music]

  1. These food trucks look great because I love spicy Mexican food. But, do they have any non-Mexican? Where are the picnic tables so we can eat with a little comfort? Eating out of my trunk isn’t appealing.

Dave should do a channel meet-up as I’d drive the 2+ hours from Boston to sample this food and talk to followers.

  2. We've been by there many times, never stopped. We've always been heading to somewhere !! I love good tacos, Mexican is one of our favorite types of restaurants

  3. Nice place, like little Mexico. The one with the Mexican flag above any other is an issue. Always fly Old Glory on top then any other under. Looks like the prices are in check due to the competition. I got to get over there soon. Nice video as always.
