    WRITTEN RECIPE

    INGREDIENTS
    – Dry pasta of choice (I used spaghetti)
    – 1-1.5 lb ground beef
    – 1 large onion, diced
    – 3 garlic cloves, minced
    – 1 tbsp tomato paste
    – 1/2 cup dry red wine (or broth/water)
    – 1 jar spaghetti sauce
    – 2 tsp black pepper
    – 2 tsp paprika
    – 2 tsp dried oregano
    – 1 tsp crushed red pepper
    – 1 tsp sugar
    – Salt, (amount is subjective to you but I used around 2 tsp)
    – 1 smoked sausage, sliced
    – 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    – Basil, thinly sliced
    – Water (for boiling pasta)
    – Olive oil

    DIRECTIONS
    – In a large pot, bring a pot of water to a boil and add salt
    – Add dry pasta and cook according to package instructions
    – In a different pot, preheat on medium high heat and add olive oil
    – Crumble ground beef into pot and brown until no pink remaining (around 7-8 minutes)
    – Remove beef and any excess fat if necessary. Set aside
    – Brown sliced sausage on both sides (around 1-2 minutes per side)
    – Remove and set aside
    – Add olive oil and add diced onions in. Saute for around 3-4 minutes until translucent
    – Add minced garlic and tomato paste. Saute for 1 minute
    – Add red wine (or substitute) and scrape bottom of pot. Allow alcohol to evaporate, around 3-4 minutes
    – If pasta is done or close to done by this point, save around 1 cup of pasta water before straining pasta
    – Add spaghetti sauce into pot
    – Scoop a bit of pasta water into jar of spaghetti sauce to rinse all of the sauce and pour into pot
    – Season with black pepper, paprika, oregano, red pepper, and sugar
    – Add about 1/2 cup of pasta water into sauce and stir
    – Add ground beef in and stir around to cover meat with sauce
    – Taste sauce and season with salt to taste
    – If sauce is looking too thick, add more pasta water
    – Simmer for 5 minutes
    – Cover with mozzarella cheese and cover to allow cheese to melt
    – After 2 minutes, cheese should be almost fully melted. Place sliced sausages around on top of cheese
    – Cover again and allow cheese to fully melt
    – Garnish with basil
