ワカモレ実験:フリーズドライ vs. 乾燥

let’s see if we can make guacamole that’ll last at least a year will it taste better from the dehydrator or the freeze dryer our guacamole starts with onions tomatoes and cilantro next we scoop out a bunch of avocados and add the veggies next comes garlic and lemon and then we start mashing until it’s a chunky paste oops we almost forgot the salt for our Wilderness Adventures we’re curious which foods turn out better in the freeze dryer and which in the dehydrator so this is the first of several tests we’re doing to get some answers we ran our Harvest Right freeze dryer and our dehydrator each for about 18 hours to remove all the water then we packaged up our guacamole for long-term storage the freeze-dried stuff will quickly reabsorb moisture from the air so it should be stored immediately with silica gel packets to maximize shelf life it’s been a few days we’re ready for the taste test at this point dehydrated is looking much worse than freeze-dried to rehydrate all we have to do is add water and mix until it’s the texture of guacamole freeze-dried came right back to life and dehydrated didn’t but we’re going to try them both anyway it’s not great M that’s amazing freeze dryer for the win wow guacamole on the trail

Guacamole is a tough food to preserve — exposing it to air makes it oxidize and turn brown, and it has a high fat content which can make it spoil quickly. One of these methods worked amazingly well, creating perfect guacamole! The other method didn’t work at all.

We prepare food for our adventures by dehydrating or freeze drying to make the food lightweight and long lasting. Some foods turn out better using one method or the other, so we’ll be testing a bunch of recipes out to learn which food turns out better using which method.

  1. Hiking makes your forehead swell and your eyes shrink. Women develop skin like sandpaper and the mens heads elongate dramatically. Proven scientific fact. Just look at people from north Carolina and Colorado

  2. This probably makes the world of a difference when hiking! I can’t stand sodium filled canned foods!!!

  3. you were happy with all dehydrated foods before freeze dried ad!!!. yes its better but the cost to buy and run is unbearable mate!

  4. Will freezedried eventually oxidize or no? There's still air in your container so I'd hypothesize it eventually will.
