fried chicken, very famous in this market. Look at the line. That’s why you know it’s famous, right? Massive amount of people
waiting for their crispy fried chicken, I’m starving We made it One original. Thank you. We made it. Look at this. This is a steak. Look. Look how big it is Mamma Mia. XXL fried chicken. We are going to try the original version Look how many people,
I mean, This is a serious spot. All right. First bite of food here in Taiwan. Buon Appetito! Look at this Oh, my God. Crunchy, crispy, mega juicy. I thought it was going to be super dry, it’s insanely juicy, super tender and wow, it got a nice, peppery kick aftertaste. It’s unbelievable. Amazing This is not just Instagram sensation. This is real, real Taiwanese fried chicken taken to a whole another level. Can I have one spicy, and one curry? Thank you. Beautiful. All right, guys. Second location of the night. Second dish grilled king oyster mushrooms. Yes, you heard me well. So while we were walking,
we found this long queue, another long queue. And then I said, wow, what are they lining up for? Look out over there.
They are mushroom machines. So you can of have the green mushrooms
with two different sauces. We pick the spicy one and the curry one,
and here we are. Let’s try the spicy one first. It’s crunchy and a bit spicy. You can taste a bit of smokiness coming from the griller Not too bad, but maybe it won’t be the best finish of the night. Let’s try the curry version one. It’s not bad The curry powder hits you
at the back of the throat. Wow! It’s not bad, it’s a nice snack
and actually it’s not too expensive Now, let’s go for more. Hello!
Can I get one? My first order in Mandarin. I guess it’s lemon tea with jelly. All right. That’s what you need She’s so sweet Oh, my God.
It’s so good. Now, we are ready to go for something else? Just a few steps from the fried chicken stall. I spotted this old school shop
that’s been serving herbal medicinal soups for over 35 years. Totally unexpected, but it smelled amazing. And I knew I had to try. All right, let’s try their famous spareribs Oh my God, this is so hot So hot Oh my God, it’s so tender.
Insanely tender The meat falls off the bone And yes, it has that medicinal taste from star anise
and mix of herbs and spices. It’s good! Number one, yes. It’s really good. The staff is so funny Let me try the broth So soothing Especially after all the dishes we’ve had. Now let’s move on to the catfish.
There is so much meat. Look at this. It smells citrusy. It’s smells basil leaves. Let’s try to eat a piece of catfish. Maybe without bones Do you know what?
Let’s dip it into the spicy sauce. Oh, so meaty. And I love the combination
of these two sauces, the super spicy, one on top and the mild one, almost sour. And the super refreshing kick from the basil leaves, the herbal medicinal flavour from the soup. What a combination. And do you know what? Instead of getting stuck in the middle of the crowd of the night market, just a few metres away from the fried
chicken spot you got this nice restaurant serving
traditional Taiwanese food. While we were walking We spotted this lady selling buns. Beautiful. Look at this. Thank you so much. We ordered a barbecue pork bun. All right, let’s go for it. Oh my God, so hot! Okay. I didn’t get much of the filling. We have chunks of pork. Almost a sweet glazed layer all over around. The bun is piping hot, it is so fluffy, and actually it’s not too big, so as soon as you bite into it, you get to the meat, you get to the filling. And the lady’s so nice. Oh, yeah. That stall over there certainly pops up while you’re walking. Look at the steam coming out. Amazing. Buns are some of my favourite snacks ever. Now I spotted another snack right next to me. I think that’s barbecued chicken over there. Look at the skewers, they’re huge. Let’s approach the guy. Is this chicken? Amazing Thank you Guys, look how huge this chicken is. Barbecue chicken completely covered in chili and sesame. Wow. It’s almost kind of crispy looking. All right, let’s give it a go. Tender, juicy. The skin is crunchy. You got a bit of the black toasted sesame on top, it actually is a nice touch. Not too spicy, just a little bit. I thought it wasn’t going to be perfectly cooked It’s perfect, perfect. It completely dissolves in your mouth. Delicious Oh, and this stall is mega packed. They keep on grilling chicken skewers on chicken skewers. And how to find this place? It’s easy because it’s right next to a temple. Looking at the entrance on the right, there is this stall selling barbecue chicken. This is it, guys. The one dish I’ve been mentally preparing for. Stinky tofu. No turning back now. Wish me luck because I might need it. The moment has finally come stinky tofu. Here we are. Look at this. It doesn’t look bad. But trust me, it smells outrageous Wow. Actually, it doesn’t smell as bad as I thought, but still bad. I mean, it looks crunchy. It’s been deep fried served with cabbage and carrots, some sauce. I saw other people actually didn’t finish it, maybe it was their first time as well I’m bit I don’t know intimidated I could smell it in the air before because there’s so many vendors selling stinky tofu. Okay, let’s do it Max, let’s do it. Oh yeah, now, it smells. Okay, one, two, three. I go One, two, three. Wow, weird. Somehow it tastes like vinegar, wine, kimchi, you know, that kind of.. fermentation. But at the same time it’s very bitter, it smells like cow dung somehow at least that’s what I feel. Let’s try it with the spice sauce. I saw the guys next to me adding it, let’s get some cabbage. maybe it will make things better. A bit of sauce. This is the ultimate, huh. It changes completely the flavour profile. Salty, vinegary, sour, it’s not spicy at all. Without that one oh man, you can’t eat it. This was the most intense experience inside the market. But I keep going. It’s Sherly’s turn to try the infamous sticky tofu. stinky tofu, not sticky tofu. So, first of all, how do you feel? Is it smelly? It’s actually fine, bearable. Okay Let’s dip it in the sauce. Okay, let’s try. Tell me your honest opinion without filter. I like it. Oh, you like it? It’s crispy, tasty, it’s nice with the chilli sauce here. Yeah, the chilli sauce makes it nice. Yeah, I think I like it. Would you have it again? Yeah. It reminds me of.. Tahu Gejrot in Indonesia. This is really good. I like it. Another line, another food. I love joining random lines. And this time is for Taiwanese
sausage with sticky rice. Look how many people. 100%, I picked the right one. Look at this section, and that’s real sticky rice. And that will be the base of our hotdog. 70 All right, guys, let’s give it a go. So Savoury, sweet. I love the crunchiness from the green onions and garlic but I can’t taste much of the garlic and how they use the sticky rice like bread in
this case is next level. It’s soft, oily, greasy, it soaks up perfectly the juices from the Taiwanese sausage and the flavour of this is next level. Look at this They are a machine. They keep grilling. They have a massive queue. I think it’s an award winning shop. So 100% they know what they’re doing. It’s really good. So good. I’m so proud of my two, three Mandarin words that I know. I keep on using them. I wish I knew more Mandarin. If you guys are watching this video
and then want to teach me Mandarin, well, you can text me. I just so the opportunity. Oh, now I’m going to finish this and then we’re going to keep exploring. But you know what? I was this place selling some drinks and I’m. I’m sweating, I’m dying, literally. So I’m gonna go there and grab a drink. Okay, for a drink we stopped at this traditional and very old shop, 50 year old shop, selling tea. Super refreshing. This is green herbal tea. Let’s give it a try. Oh, babe, you should try it. Lady is so sweet. And now let’s go for the milky one. Mamma mia, wow! So good, so good, so good. Wow, that’s really nice. Oh, okay. Yeah, this is better. It tastes good. Yeah. Oh, this is not better. It tastes like bile. Welcome to Taiwan. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you so much. Super bitter After this, no doubt, you need something sweet. And the lady so sweet. Oh my God. And look at this place, it is amazing. it is like a museum. Oh, wow. Cheers! Mamma mia, how much I needed this. It’s the next day and I’m back for round two. But this time at Raohe night market. It’s smaller than Shilin,
but it’s got a vibe on it own. And most importantly, the food here is absolutely out of control. The first thing I’m going for is this legendary tandoor baked bun. Seriously, hard to resist. But first, let’s see how they make it. First food of the night s this beautiful tandoor-baked pork bun. Oh, you’ll find it immediately
as soon as you enter the Raohe night market. Look at this. You get greeted by this tandoor. The stuff is incredibly friendly and you smell it in the air. Toasted sesame They make it fresh right in front of you. They throw it in the oven and they carefully cook it, and then they pull it out and it’s piping hot, ready to be eaten and I’m starving. So let’s go for it. Buon appetito Oh, the onions, the juice from the pork
and it’s super crunchy with a bit of the sesame, it’s insane, super juicy. Look, it completely soaked up perfectly the juices of the meat. And since it’s slow cooked, as soon as you bite into it, it’s super crunchy and flaky, but then inside it’s doughy and completely soaked with this beautiful pork juice, there’s no better way to start the day. Look, look, look how many people. It’s really good. Everyone is friendly, easy to find
because it’s right at the entrance of the market. This is a win. So we found another location. This gentleman is boiling some meat and organs. The smell is incredible. It’s like five spice, Chinese five spice. There is a big queue. I guess I want to give it a go. Okay, a bit of beef. Tripe, a little bit. Tendon? Yes. Chicken feet. One. Okay. And I guess what he does, he weighs everything. So your money. All right. Boom and then he starts chopping everything Do you want it spicy? A little bit. So he puts everything in the broth. Wow. Amazing. Okay and this is going to be my very first time. Look at our massive plate full of beef. We’ve got beef, tendons, tripe, oh, we have chicken, chicken feet. Everything I think has been braised in Chinese
spices. Then we’ve got some pickled watercress, pickled cabbage and chilli. Let’s try some beef. Hopefully it’s tender as I expect it to be. Buon appetito Wow. Delicious! Oh, my God! It dissolves in your mouth completely. It’s insanely tender. I guess they cook it for so many hours. So first of all, there’s no odour whatsoever you can just taste the spices, quite aromatic and the meat is super tender. Now let’s go for the tripe. Carpety The cleaned it well. There is still a little bit of odour. It’s actually tender as well. I mean, now the tendon, it will dissolve. This is like pure fat. Pure fat, pure fat. And I also saw other people ordering this with noodles. Can you imagine having this in a big bowl full of noodles? Now, oh my God, how big it is. Let’s go for it. I’m not an expert in eating chicken feet. It’s all about cartilage, almost jelly-like, there’s a kind texture that you get. It’s actually a really nice snack. I would have never thought. I thought it was going to be strong almost a bit smelly, actually not at all. What a fantastic treat. Next up, Gua Bao. Basically Taiwan’s
version of a pork belly burger. And yes, it’s as good as it sounds. Wow. Fresh bun, peanuts,
pickled watercress, fatty and lean pork. Wow. She’s trying to choose the best one. Beautiful! A bit of chilli as well. Look at this this. I’ve never seen it before. Of course, never tried it. Looks good. Looks impressive. Beautiful. Look at colours. We’ve got freshly steamed bun,
pickled watercress, fatty braised pork, cilantro, peanuts on the bottom and chilli. I’m salivating. Buon appetito So you got that crunchiness from the watercress, the pork is tender, oh, it’s super mega spicy. And the bun is so fresh,
it’s like biting into nothing. So spicy. It’s good! Too spicy. It’s delicious. Oh, my God. My throat This part right here is on fire. I love her enthusiasm. It’s contagious. All right. I’m gonna finish this and then we have a lot more to try Next food This is very unique. I found this very weird combination
but I heard this popular in this market Deep fried taro balls stuffed with egg yolk and pork floss. It sounds weird, but I guess it’s famous and it’s good. He fries them Okay, I heard this spot is famous open since 1964. Okay. Strange combination Deep fried taro with duck egg yolk and poor floss. Look at this. And then we ordered another one
with cheese. So hot, but let’s give it a go. Oh, it’s almost like mochi. Look, spongy. Then you’ve got the consistency of the egg yolk, mushy, you get the pork floss. It’s really nice, balanced actually. Not sweet at all. Almost like potato Let me tell him that it was good. Very good, very good. This one is deep fried taro and cheese. Like mozzarella. This one is even better than the other one. With pepper and cheese. Oh, my goodness. What are we talking about? This is even better. How is it? You like it? Do like this in front of the camera. Approved. So good! By the way, this market is incredible. So I thought, yesterday that Shilin night market, you know, the largest night market in Taipei and one of the biggest in Taiwan, it was the best one, but actually Raohe so far is better. Sorry, guys, it is better. Wow. So much action. Food is different. I think so far there’s way better food
and I’m impressed. Let’s continue. We found some seafood,
some seashell and abalone. I never tried abalone in my life. Slowly grilling He’s pouring something on top of it, I don’t know what it is. Okay, I’m super excited to try some seafood
and especially abalone. I’ve never tried it in my life before. So this is going to be my very first time. Look at this. Let’s give it a go. Strong oceany flavour, salty, chewy,
but not too much. Actually, it’s not too bad. It has been clean quite well Wow, first experience. Oh my god it really taste like ocean. Now, let’s go for the sea snails I think he poured something in it, maybe oil or water. This one is even softer. Still super oceany. I don’t know. I never tasted seafood like that Very strong in flavour like this. Like very oceany, almost like there is
saltwater in it. That was a unique experience. $100 Taiwanese dollars for three abalone, so for everything $200. Not bad. That’s ready! Beautiful. Do you want it spicy? Yes, a bit. Thank you. Guys, I promise We’re almost done. There is a massive problem with this market. There’s so many good foods Now, what I found is Taipei bomb
scallions pancake. Look how huge! It’s massive. Stuffed with scallions obviously, eggs. You can also choose the way
you want it to be cooked. They finished it with a sweet sauce and that chilli. It’s all about the dough and the sweet sauce that they put on top. Oh, almost kind of puffed, airy. The egg is still be runny so you get the explosion of yolk. The sauce is thick and a bit sweet. Let’s bite it here into the heart of the pancake. You got that crunchiness from the green onions. I really love the dough. It’s oily, crazy, fluffy. Airy It’s good. Wow. Wow. Thank you. Super delicious! Mamma mia! Amore, you will love this. It’s delicious. I promise We have one more dish and then we’ll be done. Everything is so good.
There’s so much action. People are friendly. Yeah, I’m loving it. Way better than Shilin night market. Last dish of the night. It’s a dessert. We’re having shaved ice with taro balls, red beans and condensed milk. Oh, look at the shaved ice. It’s like snow. Oh, yes. And the taro balls look like Gnocchi. Let’s get a bit of everything. Let’s go for it. Oh, my God. It’s good. Oh, rich. Refreshing and a bit sweet, but not too much. And the taro balls or how I call it, the Taiwanese Gnocchi, are top notch, that’s what we needed. And the ice really is like snow. Yesterday and today, we’ve got so much food. I think we’ve had between 15 to 20 dishes between snacks, drinks, main dishes, seafood, desserts, you name it. This market, Raohe night market, is incredible. Way better than Shilin night market. Of course, I heard a lot about Shilin market being the largest one, full of different foods. Famous amongst tourists. It is nice. I enjoyed it. But this market right here to me is the winner. In terms of food, vibes, options and desserts. All right, guys. That was the end of the video. Out of two nights. We have so many dishes. 15 to 16. Which one was my favourite? Actually, let’s start with Sherly.. Amore mio, which one was your favourite dish of the video? Braised beef. Can you say it out loud for us? Braised beef. All right, that was really good. So braised beef with tripe, tendons and chicken feet. For me, that was very good. I was tossing between two the giant fried chicken that we had in Shilin night market, actually, the very first food. It was amazing, super juicy, peppery, crunchy. And the giant Taipei
Scallion pancake, it was out of this world. I think that was my favourite. If there is one thing Taipei takes
seriously, it’s noodles. Thick or thin, hot or cold. Brothy or dry. Noodles are more than just food
here, they’re a way of life. This is one of the most unique
bowl of noodles I’m about to try. You’ll find them everywhere; in markets,
food courts and tiny local shops. Each with its own take on a classic. In this video, we are diving headfirst into some of the most mouthwatering
noodle dishes this city has to offer. From legendary Taiwanese
beef noodles made with premium local beef, to peanutty noodle so rich and addictive. They should honestly be illegal. We’ll chill things out with a cold noodle
dessert that totally caught me off guard. Then wrap things up with a bold and beautiful braised pork trotter
noodle dish that hits like a flavour bomb. With this dish, we are touching the sky. So loosen your belt
and bring your appetite because Taipei’s
noodles don’t mess around. Now, to kick off the noodle party,
we are heading to an absolute institution, a third generation
noodle shop tucked away in a little alley like all the best secrets in Taipei. Thank you, chef. Oh, nice! First location of the day Liu Shan Dong beef noodles. An institution here in Taipei It’s superior local open since 1950s. It doesn’t need an introduction.
But look at this. We’ve ordered
the original beef noodles. Look at this big chunks of beef.
Beautiful. It will be super tender. Oh, my God. Look at this chives
and think homemade noodles. Almost like hand-pulled noodles. I guess the texture will be chewy. We will find out very soon. And the smell coming out of it is unbelievable Now the most important thing is trying
the broth first Oh, nice.. Beefy. It’s actually not too rich, which I love. It’s very soothing.
Especially first thing in the morning. That’s what you want. Now let’s go from the noodles
and the beef. Buon Appetito! I have no words.
It’s insanely tender, insanely tender. it completely dissolves in your mouth. I don’t know how many hours
this has been cooked. Noodles are chewy, a bit firm. These are the famous Taiwanese beef noodles. First time having them and I’m already impressed. Now what I want to do is to add a bit of
the pickled veggies. Chilli, I don’t know what this is. Chilli and? Hmm. Interesting.
We will find out soon. Let’s mix everything out. Just, like, beans or something. Look at these.
It looks like beans with chilli I love the pickled veggies,
they add a touch of sourness to it. And also what I love is they serve
the noodles in a stainless steel bowl. Makes it look more elegant
for some reason. It’s good! It’s very good The beef. Oh, so tender. This is the pure purebred. It’s so good and the noodles are home-made? Homemade noodles. -Yes, home-made noodles. And this is Taiwanese beef and the braised one is Australian beef. Oh, okay. Different beef. All right. This is very tender. How many hours do you cook the beef for? -Four to six hours. That’s why it’s very tender. See? They braised them for 4 to 6 hours. Amazing. But we are only just getting started. Next up, the peanutty noodles that are so insanely delicious. They should come with a warning. Creamy, nutty, a little spicy. It’s like a Sate explosion
met a bowl of noodles. Oh, My God.
This looks absolutely fantastic. Second bowls of noodles of the day. Oh, this one looks incredible. Cold noodles smothered
with a thick sesame paste, tofu and some sauce, obviously, and cold cucumbers. It looks incredible. I have never seen anything like this. Oh, wow.
Oh, my goodness. Now what I’m going to do is mixing it up. Look, look how thick it is. Like peanut butter. Oh, yeah. So peanutty. I’m salivating. I love sesame, peanut butter. Whatever smells similar to this. Oh, all right. Buon appetito Phenomenal Perfect summer dish. Outside it’s super hot. This dish is like a refreshing drink. It’s incredible. It’s a bit peppery, nutty. You can really taste the sesame. Thick sesame paste The noodles are chewy and somehow
a little bit al dente. And that nice mushy tofu. Now, let’s get to the bottom. This is the sauce, it’s very saucy. I love it. Really really refreshing. Very unique. What I want to do now is to add this
chilli right here. Let’s go for it. Let’s mix everything up. This is the classic dish that I can have
every day during summer here in Tapei. Oh, here we’re not joking. It’s very good. Super good! And this spot, I heard it’s legendary
and it opens 24/7. So you can come any time of the day. It’s quite formidable. 60-70 Taiwanese Dollars Very cheap for Taiwan Now this next spot takes us inside
one of Taipei’s bustling markets, where you find everything from
fruits, lunchboxes and street snacks. Tucked away on the second floor inside a food court is a legendary noodle stall known for its bold, beefy tomato noodles made the old school way hand cut, thick and full of character. It’s comforting, it’s messy. And it’s one of the most unique
takes on beef noodles I’ve ever had Oh, look at this. Beautiful. Let’s go find a spot For this bowl on noodles I’m insanely excited because
I have never seen anything quite like it. Look, I hope we manage to see something, but there is at the back the chef with this massive dough and shaving the dough and throwing this irregular chunks inside the boiler. Look, they’re all different.
It’s like shaving parmesan. I have never seen anything like that. Look at this. I’m super excited. Oh, mamma mia. I’m salivating. And look at the queue.
This is unbelievable. All right, buon appetito. The tomatoes are so sweet. The noodles are actually a bit chewy and thick. The broth is almost citrusy. Unique It might be one of the most interesting
bowl of noodles I’ve ever had. The beef I believe has been boiled first and then cooked in the wok together
with all the veggies. It’s really great. Way different than the beef noodles
that we’ve had in the first place. Now, what I’ve been told to do is to add some of this, which is dry tofu, maybe seaweed and we got an egg here. The tofu gives a nice kick, a
nice addition, different texture. This is a spot you absolutely
must visit if you’re ever in Taipei. Look at the people, it’s crazy.
It’s crazy. It’s the only place here in the food court that has this queue. Crazy. Just a few items, a few dishes. They make them to perfection. They’re quick. They’re fast. Absolutely top notch. Another bowl of noodles down. And I absolutely love that. You know what I loved the most? It’s the unique texture of the noodles. It’s very difficult to explain. You have to come here and try it. Han cut noodles with beef, tomatoes that give a very nice sweet
touch to it, egg, cabbage, the addition of tofu, seaweed, been with chilli. What an incredible bowl of noodles. I’m impressed really. And look,
you can tell that people love it, right? People keep on coming, it’s insane. Okay, now, we’re going for the next bowl of noodles. It’s the next day and our noodle mission continues. This time we’re diving into something
pungent, Luosifen noodles. They’re sour, spicy and totally unlike
any other noodles I’ve ever tried. It’s funky, intense,
and honestly kind of addictive. First bowl of noodles of the day,
this is very interesting, It’s called Luosifen. noodles cooked in a rich broth with pork bones and snails, with chilli, it’s sour, topped with pork, cabbage, lotus, pickled mustard greens, peanuts, tofu skin. And look at the broth. Look at the noodles This is.. one of the most unique bowl of noodles I’m about to try it. Well, first of all,
we need to try the broth. It’s actually not too sour. It’s a bit spicy, tomatoey. Interesting. The noodles are so bouncy,
very unique texture, like elastic. The pork dissolves in your mouth and it’s actually not as sour as I thought it was going to be. Let’s mix up everything. Oh, my gosh. I should have mixed it. Look! More ingredients coming up. Yes, lotus, pickled mustard greens. Yes. Okay. I can smell the sourness right now. I can smell a bit of that.. snails stock in it. You know what? Let’s have some chilli.
Let’s make it spicy. This is vinegar. Let’s mix up everything. Beautiful, huh? Colourful, beautiful-looking, perfect with this kind of weather. Windy, rainy outside. It’s pretty nice. And the lady, the owner at the counter, recommended this bowl of noodles to me. She said, don’t worry, this is our signature one. Let’s go for it. Now, it’s spicy and sour
the way I want it. I have to say, this is a very unique dish. I’m appreciating it more slurp after slurp. At the beginning, I wasn’t able
to understand the complexity of this dish. It’s quite unique.
I never had noodles like this before. Subtle, sour, spicy. Full of different textures. The noodles are smooth, chewy, bouncy. A bit spicy. And I love the texture of the bamboo
shoots, watercress, pork, cambage,
crunchy peanuts on top, tofu skin. You rarely see a noodle dish like this. If you’re ever in Taiwan and you want to have a different
noodle experience, you have to come to this place
and try their famous. Luosifen noodles. Next up, Chuan oyster noodles, a true
flavour bomb. It’s got plump oysters, braised pig intestines and wheat vermicelli noodles swimming in a thick savoury broth. Super comforting and pure Taiwanese soul food. Beautiful. Thank you Thank you so much. Oh, my goodness. Oh, look how beautiful. So unique. Second bowl of noodles of the day, fifth on this food tour. And this one is very interesting. Thick noodle soup with wheat vermicelli noodles, fresh oysters, cilantro and chewy pig intestines. I have never seen anything like it. Look at this. Look at the consistency. Wow, almost glutinous. So thick! What I love is that as soon as you arrive at this place, you get greeted by this big cauldron full of vermicelli noodles soup. One of the ladies suggested
I should add just a little bit of chilli. Garlic paste and vinegar. Not too much. Let’s mix everything up. Oh, look at the colour. Oh, my God, the consistency. I’m salivating. Let’s try to get a bit of everything. We have oysters, pig intestines and noodles and let’s go for it. Oh my God, so good! Delicious! So good. Spicy. I can’t talk. I think I’ve added.. too much chilli in it. I love it. So comforting, thick, glutinous, with that umami flavour. Super interesting! The pig intestines are actually way less chewy as I thought they were going to be. Then there is crunchy cilantro
with a burst of freshness. Oh, they brought us refreshing
noodles. Sorry, a refreshing soup. So kind of them. And also what I love is the explosion
in your mouth of the oysters. Wow, look at this. They just explode, pop in your mouth. Definitely the pig intestines have a bit of an odour, but I love organs, so it doesn’t make any difference to me. You can also down these noodles only with oysters, but overall it’s an amazing dish. I love the touch of sourness, freshness
from the cilantro, chilli, vinegar and the texture. In this weather, this is absolutely
perfect, so soothing and comforting. Now, we cool things down with a surprising twist. A cold noodle dessert. Yep. You heard that right. It’s chilled, refreshing
and somehow it works. Taipei really knows how to keep you guessing. Look at this beautiful dessert with ice,
all sorts of jelly stuff. Let’s see at the bottom
what they have. Noodles, homemade rice noodles, kidney beans, crystal and herbal jelly. Beautiful. Everything completely topped up
with the spoon of thick brown sugar. Now let’s mix everything up. Everything melted already because… we spent time in taking pictures. Oh, it looks beautiful. Look at this. Everything swimming in ice and sugar. Now let’s go for it. Oh, it’s not sweet. Just a little bit. It’s incredibly refreshing. The noodles are soft, almost al dente You really can tell that they’re homemade. Then you got the mushiness from the kidney beans, the jelly stuff. And a bit of crunchiness, if you can say like that
from the ice Mamma mia. Super refreshing! It’s an eruption of flavours. This is very similar to Cendol
in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore. Just white (colour of the noodles) Actually, I needed this yesterday. So sweet. Actually,
I was saying that I needed this yesterday. 40 degrees, 40 degrees. So that’s why we had to stop filming. Take a break and come back today. You should see the place, it’s packed. Lots of people ordering their takeaway
and they make everything fresh. Yeah, this is machine. And finally, for the grand finale,
we are ending with an absolute bomb. Braised pork trotter noodles. It’s flavour packed, it’s gelatinous in the best way and it’ll make you rethink everything
you thought you knew about pork. Ladies and gentlemen, for the final meal of the day, the greatest bowl of noodles
in this tour. Look at this. Thin noodles cooked with vinegar. We have braised pork knuckle, pig trotter, pork meat. Look how tender it is. Look how fatty, look. Mamma mia, look how jiggly. Beautiful. Then we have a braised duck egg. All right, the lady told me to add some
black vinegar and then mix up everything. See, I should have done it before. That’s how it works when you film. This is a glorious bowl of noodles. Look in this. Oh, my God. Oh, my goodness. Mamma mia! Look at this pig trotter. I’m salivating. Okay, ready, guys? Because I am. Let’s go for it. Mamma mia, first bite
of this glorious bowl of noodles. Buon appetito Immediately! The meat insanely tender, completely dissolves in your mouth. You can really taste that
almost like cinnamon flavour, star anise because it has been slowly braised by their master right there. Downstairs. That’s the king of braised pork
knuckle. Mamma mia! And the noodles are firm, thin, perfect with these kind of ingredients. Let’s add a bit of chilli. No chilli no party, right? You know what? It’s bit smoky. What a fantastic chilli oil as well. Oh man, here.. Wow, it’s a bit spicy. With this dish we are touching the sky. Unbelievable. Look at this. Mamma mia. Mamma, mamma mia. This dish I know I’ve said it I know I’ve said it several times, it’s a masterclass. It deserves an award. It’s illegal. Time ten!!! Oh, guys since 1965.. we are not joking here. He’s the absolute king, the master. So this place stays open till late night. Two, three, 4 a.m.. It’s a machine. Always people lining up. Look, those people line up to dine in. Then there’s also a row for people
ordering takeaways. You get greeted by this beauty. Amazing What a place! Noodles, rice, you name it. Just Top! All right, guys. It’s been an incredible two days full of eating delicious noodles
here in Taipei. We are super mega stuffed. Look, we started with a classic, beef
noodles at the very legendary spot. We went for cold noodles with sesame paste, knife hand cut noodles, I’ve never seen anything like that before. Cold noodles dessert, the one with the oysters
and pig intestines, and then now the glorious noodles
with the pig trotter and knuckle. What can I say? I’m impressed. I’m impressed. And I’m sure Taipei has
so many more noodles to offer. And I cannot wait to maybe one day
make another video about noodles. Which one was my favourite? Ladies and gentlemen, it’s here. Oh, the master is walking. See? He knew that he was the winner. Yeah, these noodles are just on another level to me. At least that’s based on my personal preference. I love something like that. I knew it was going to be the one
as soon as I saw it. You know, it’s been open since 1965. A lot of experience.
You see, the gentleman knows what he does. The boiling, oh, the smell is incredible in the air. Just amazing. Everything is in harmony. The consistency, fatty and jelly. Just wow! Now, what about you my love behind the camera? I liked the one with oysters. The oysters and pig intestines vermicelli soup. That was an interesting one. And by the way,
the owners were super sweet. So go and pay a visit.
They’re very, very nice. This is Taiwan
like you’ve never tasted before. Our breakfast is here
and I’m super excited and starving. We got our braised pork belly over top of rice. I think this is bitter melon. Look how fatty the pork is. We have another one
for Sherly behind the camera. She needs some energy. We have braised tofu, and egg.
I’m mouthwatering. And we also order a soup with pork ribs,
this is radish, maybe? Oh, and I just realised
there are clams in it. What a combo. Let’s give it a try. Let’s try this braised pork belly. This restaurant is really famous for.
Oh, with bitter melon. Buon Appetito! Super delicious. It’s insane!
Melts in your mouth completely. And you can really taste
sweet, savoury, with the thick glaze sauce on top. Wow! What a dish. And the rice just balances everything. Now, let’s try the tofu as well. A bit of tofu. Do you know what? Let’s pour some of the broth here, the sauce, egg. It’s incredible. You can’t really taste much of the bitter
melon, but what a combo. Everything just matches perfectly.
Everything is in harmony. This is a ten out of ten. Now, let’s try the ribs. Let’s try the broth first. Oh, nice. Oh, see? It completely falls off the bone. Oh, do know what? It almost tastes like smoky. This is so soothing, woah. This is what you need in the morning. I can imagine having this during winter. Hearty, rich, comforting,
ready to get your day going. Mamma mia!
What a breakfast. Today we’re in Taipei, Taipei Fish Market This is more of a modern style. I’m very excited to show it to you
and I cannot wait. So, let’s go! We got inside and there are tanks
with live seafood. Look at this They have snow crab. We haven’t had it before. By the way, we had so much seafood yesterday but we didn’t have it. They have conch. Moving on. Over here they have South African abalone. Look at that. It’s a different colour, grey.
Look at this, how cool is this? Now, oh..geoduck I never had this one before. Look at this beauty. These are big clams, eh? So I believe how this works is you can either select and buy your fresh seafood
and take it home or get it cook outside. Third option is all the fish and seafood
that you get serve at the restaurants up here
that I will show you in a moment comes from these tanks. I want to show you something else. Lobsters. Nice colour. I believe these are local.
Nice size, huh? For pasta, pasta with lobster. There’s not many options, but this is a modern kind of seafood
market. It’s pretty okay for Taipei. I mean, you can get the real one,
the traditional one, but you get more of a modern style like this one. But now what I want to show
you is the other section up there. Let’s go! This one is a little bit different. I didn’t expect it to be like this. It’s more like a boutique supermarket. See? There are restaurants when they sell well I bet sashimi, sushi and fresh seafood. We got sashimi, oh, oysters.
I hope we are going to get this. Oh, we have more food These are nice lunch boxes Cooked food right here. Some contain fish but it’s more of a lunch box. Look at this. Crab legs, it’s huge.
And look at the price. 1000 TWD which is roughly 35 USD.
Crazy, eh? So basically
this is a more of a high end place They slice sashimi in front of you
prepare seafood in front of you. Everything is fresh.
You know where it comes from. This is the kind of place,
this is the experience that you can get in Taipei at Taipei Fish Market. We made it.
We chose a restaurant. I’ll tell you the name right after. And we pick this amazing set. So we’re going to have
a seafood platter with oysters, sashimi, yam. Grilled king crab, grilled
scallops, nigiri sushi, seven pieces and miso soup with fish bones
for the total price of 1980 TWD which is roughly $65 to $70 USD for the two of us. So this will be a very nice experience. We get the chefs in front of us
cooking and slicing the fish. It will be a very different experience. Nice. And this what you can get in Taipei. Awesome! First course has arrived, scallops.
Beautiful. I can smell a bit of soy sauce.
Oh, as we speak Thank you so much. A sushi platter. We got prawn, eel, salmon roe, scallop and tuna. Okay, let’s try this one first. Oh, so nice. Wow, it’s warm. I never had it like this before. Let’s go for the sushi. First of all, obviously,
you need to prepare your sauce with wasabi that you are given immediately as soon as you arrive,
as well as a beautiful wet towel. Let’s go for this.
Oh, my God. The chunk of fish is huge. Let’s go for it. insane. Wow! Phenomenal. Oh, my God.
It dissolves in your mouth. How much I miss sushi? especially with this quality of fish.
It’s spectacular. I know Sherly behind the camera really loves it So after this she will enjoy it. Let’s go for the eel.
Another favourite of mine. This one is grilled and blowtorch. Even more soft and tender than the tuna. Unbelievable.
It’s phenomenal. Now, the salmon roe.
Beautiful colour, eh? It’s insanely salty. It pops in your mouth, it’s like an explosion of flavour. Nice!
I love the atmosphere, the vibes. You know, you are standing, it’s like a sushi bar. The cook in front of you,
fresh ingredients. You know what the seafood comes
from? It’s beautiful. Somehow it feels like you are in Japan. You know what I mean? They just brought us a miso soup cooked with fish bones,
oh, good chunks of fish as well, which I did not expect. Look at that.
Let’s give it a try right now. First of all I want to try the soup. Oh, nice. Actually it’s not as intense
as I thought it was going to be. I look at this.
Hopefully there is no bone Oh, it’s tender. It’s meaty, oh Let’s close it and let’s have it in the end of the meal. Now we are going to finish this
and then we wait for our next course. The king crab has arrived. The smell is incredible. This has been obviously grilled. Suggestion from my wife is to cut it. Thank you, amore. We made it. This is going to be my very first time
trying king crab. All right. I’m so excited. I’m super excited.
I’m like a kid now Buon appetito! Just fresh without any sauce. Oh, my God.
Oh! It’s unbelievable.
This is crazy. This is a gift from heaven. It’s almost sweet. This is mega tender, juicy. It has that charred smoky flavour to it. I thought it was going to be more plain
because it’s been boiled and grilled But, no.
This one, ladies and gentlemen, it’s next level. Okay. Let’s try to dip it into the soy sauce. Let’s see if it works. I’m still in shock. It tastes so good. It’s one of the best seafood
that I’ve ever tried before. If you have it in Taipei, you better try it because this experience will shock you. And I was talking to Sherly before off
camera that the sushi that we had here might be the best one
we’ve ever had so far. And we ever been to Japan yet. So this is a very big statement. Guys, this place speaks for itself. One more thing. Nice, fresh beer. My God. It’s super cold Let’s give it a try. and let’s celebrate together. This is good. The final course of the day. Look at this beautiful bowl. Wow, fantastic.
Elegantly presented. We have oysters that we haven’t
had here in Taiwan yet. This one, which I don’t know what it is,
salmon roe and something we will find out very soon. This looks like ice cream, vanilla ice cream with
salmon roe. We have sashimi
most probably tuna, prawn, mini abalone and abalone which is nicely presented
with asparagus on some jelly. I guess we will find out very soon. Let’s go for the oysters
fresh without squeezing anything on top. Just like this. Let’s go for it It’s huge. Oh, my God. I got water all over me. It’s insane, it’s salty, oceany. Unbelievable.
Look how big it is. It’s amazing. We’ve seen this at the market
and I said, I really want to try it, but I knew I would have tried it here.
Moving on. This one looks like some sort of noodles
with fish eggs. Let’s go for it Maybe coconut? It’s crunchy The salmon roe is popped in your mouth completely. I don’t know what this is. Maybe coconut? It’s slimy.
It doesn’t have the best look. If you know in the comments section
down below, just let me know. And one more dish
that I want to try is this beautiful abalone with asparagus and jelly stuff,
which I don’t know what that is. Let’s go for the abalone first. Let’s get some jelly stuff. It’s crazy. It tastes like a mix of smoky
and marinated flavours, with a bit of saltiness. Simple, yet, complex dish with so much elegance.
Unbelievable Hands down.
It’s some of the best seafood we ever had in our life. We made it for breakfast. Already I can see the line. Oh, look at this. We came to this local joint for a classic Taiwanese breakfast. So we’re going for soy milk. One of my favourite things, Shaobing, which is the pastry. The pie that the gentleman is baking and he’s cooking right inside of that oven and maybe Youtiao, the fried breadstick. It’s very local
and also busy since early in the morning. I’m starving and before going to the market, we need some energy, we need some power. So I really can’t wait to try it out. Attention. We bought the entire shop. So we got Youtiao, breadsticks. Shaobing, what they’re super famous for. Let’s see what it’s stuffed with. Probably pork I see Grandma over there making these beautiful baked dumplings. Oh, my gosh. So hefty! This will explode in my mouth. It’s piping out. It just came out of the grill. And, of course, my beloved soy milk. Let’s try this Shaobing first. I can only taste sesame. Oh, I think there’s no filling in this one. You know what? It’s dry. I need some chilli. So I’ve seen locals requesting the Shaobing to be opened up, get it stuffed with.. with egg and Youtiao and they put some chilli in it. That was quite the ultimate one. With chilli is so much better
because otherwise it’s too dry. But what I love is the toasted sesame on top. Perfect. Look, they make everything in front of you, it doesn’t get any fresher than this. Super local. I love it. Now let’s go for the dumpling. Oh, my God, it’s so hot! Look, pork and chives, signature stuffing. Oh, this is really nice. You know what? Let me add some chilli oil. Done, they didn’t have chili oil so I got this. Let’s go for it. Oh my God, it’s so good! Juicy, packed with flavour, crunchy green onions, this is impressive. Super good. Now, the last one, Youtiao, fried breadstick with soy milk. So usually what I do or what people do is to dip it inside but.. I can not do it here. I’m going to bite it I let wait for too long It’s not as crunchy as I wanted. Nice! What a combo! The greasiness of this one and the comfort of the soy milk. Perfect. So this is a classic Taiwanese breakfast. So the Shaobing was good. Maybe a little too dry. Maybe it’s better actually to stuff it with eggs. The dumpling, next level. This one, do not let it rest for a while. So eat it immediately together with your soy milk. It’s perfect! Top breakfast! And now we’re going to the market. We just made it to Dongmen market which is quite a known market here in Taipei We explored one side a little bit, but it seems to be dead, maybe almost closed. On this side you can find classic takeaway shops, everyone selling seafood, clothes. But we’ve seen lots of people going to that direction, which is another part of the market. So.. let’s go and explore that side. We made it to the other side. Here it’s definitely a lot different. Lively and I already saw something interesting. Follow me I think they’re making pork floss, they love for floss. They put it in everything even in sweet potato balls. I bet you watched the video, right? Okay. Now we continue. Oh, yes. Look at that! Pork floss, pork jerky, I love it. See what the gentleman is looking at right here? It’s the same thing that we tried in Yilan morning market. It was super delicious. So these balls made with flour, I think pork, taro and other ingredients, they’re so delicious. This market is amazing. They sell vegetables, seafood, meat, all sorts of spices and medicine. I love it. I love it. And it’s definitely lively. So 10 a.m. is not too late. Hello! Oh, my goodness. Over here they’re grilling everything. Squid, pork, sausages, fish. What an amazing scene! The thing is that you can only get things to go. You know what, I think this time I’m going to try something. A little bit. Okay. We’ve got some pork. Oh my goodness, that.. is calling my name. Thank you Okay. Bye. Okay, let’s try this under the shade, then in front of her. We’ve got pork which has been marinated first and grilled over there. Wow, let’s go for it. It’s a bit sweet. Oh, so juicy. This one with rice.. would be perfect. Delicious! Super delicious! Mamma mia! And see we got more people coming to buy some pork or fish. Oh, it’s so delicious. Okay, we’ve just started our snacking tour. Let’s go! We were just walking and we saw this gentleman cooking fish balls. I think they serve fish balls on a soup and also with noodles. I can see from here the fire, it’s piping hot. Look at this place! They sell all sorts of jelly stuff. Look at that! Mamma mia! Thank you Let’s give it a try. Nice! I expected it to be a bit bitter. Not at all. It’s refreshing. Almost with the coffee aftertaste. Coffee slash medicinal aftertaste. Wow! It’s actually nice. I got one bottle because it’s so good and with this whether super mega hot I needed this. It’s super hot. So we stop here by this chicken stall, because I saw some action. All the ladies fighting for some chicken. I said, you know what? Let’s see what the fuss is about. So I might get some chicken. Oh, my God, that looks good. Look at that one. Look at this beautiful chicken. I love the skin, so shiny. So they serve two different types. I don’t know if the colour depends on the marination or the different type of chicken they use, but we got this one, so let’s give it a try. Look at this. Nice! Buon appetito Smoky Smoky! I did not expect that. Smoky, juicy, I don’t know how people eat it but I guess they all get some takeaway to eat it with rice at home with other side dishes. This is fantastic! It’s smoky, I did not expect that. Look how busy the shop is, it’s almost lunchtime, right. So people come here, buy their chicken. Bring it home. Nice. Lovely chicken, nice friendly owners. And our market tour continues. So let’s go! Now we stopped to a place where they make at least how they call it here Taiwanese burrito. Just like, popiah. They make the rice paper thin roll here with rice flour batter. And then they stuffed it with all sorts of ingredients. So cool. Very nice, quick and efficient production line. We haven’t tried these before, so, today is the day. We ordered one and we ordered the traditional one with I think, tofu, pork, cilantro, shallots and veggies. Yeah, it really looks like a burrito. Buon appetito! It’s good! The texture, wow! You got crunchiness, sweetness from the pork. The wrap is sort of elastic, bouncy, you got crunchiness and juiciness from the bean sprouts. Oh, wow.
This is a good, eh? This is a good one. And they’re quite generous with the filling. Do you have chilli? Thank you so much. Oh, now we’re talking. Look at this. Oh! It’s sour, salty, fermented. That’s intense. Now, there is one more thing that I want to try before leaving the market, which is something that we saw before, but we haven’t tried. So let’s go. Thank you! And what I was talking about was fishballs. Let’s go! Our food has arrived. Oh, look at the noodles, transparent. I’ve never seen anything like that. And then the fishballs. But this is not your regular fishball. It’s stuffed with pork. I have never seen it, so I’m super excited to try it out. Let’s try the broth first. Nice and simple Let’s try the noodles. Oh, it’s so nice! What a contrast. You certainly can taste the fish and you certainly can taste the pork and the chives. It’s an explosion of juices. Oh, wow. I don’t think they add any salt to it. The only add some fried shallots, green onions and that’s it. So it’s very simple. But this one is amazing. Best fishballs ever Ooh..Hands down best fishball ever. Unique texture They don’t taste like anything. It’s almost eating nothing. The fishballs are fantastic. It tastes like fish. And then when that explosion of juices with pork and chives. I wouldn’t expect it And this place is nice because it’s in the middle of the market and outside you can see them preparing and selling all these fishballs. The shop inside has an air conditioner which is something we need because outside is super hot. It’s mega packed. And everyone is having noodles, rice, side dishes, fishballs. Such a cools spot! Not trip to Taipei is complete without Din Tai Fung. Let’s dive into that iconic Xialongbao and see what makes them world class. We made it to the one and only Din Tai Fung The most famous dumpling restaurant in the entire globe. Alright And I think, I’ll confirm with you later, this is the original location. The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience is top notch, high quality service. I’m super excited. First of all, immediately. The menu is huge, but these are the top recommendations. Of course,
if you come here, you have to have xialongbao, that’s what they’re really famous for. So we’re going to get the xialongbao with pork, and then we’re going to have
siumai with shrimp and pork. This very interesting cold soup with snow mushroom. This side dish right here, which I don’t know what it is, but we will find out very soon. They’re also famous for noodles. I’m going for the ones with
spicy sesame and peanut sauce, since I love sesame sauce. This place speaks for itself. Famous all over the world,
they’ve been open since the late ‘50s Din Tai Fung is just an institution. They’re famous for their high quality ingredients, high skilled and trained chefs. The precision in making the xialongbao with 18 folds paper thin skin. I just can’t wait to try them out. -I hope you’ll like the sauce Of course, we will. Thank you so much. So nice.
Oh, amazing service. This is actually a fine dining. As you can see, we have a small bowl with ginger. The ratio is one of soy sauce and three with vinegar on top of ginger. And also here is their instructions on how to enjoy your first xialongbao. We’ve been recommended to have this dish, spicy pickled cucumber. By the way, so far I’m super excited! I’ve been wanting to come to this place for a very long time. I know they have locations in other 15 or 16 countries, but I never ever have the chance to try it. So, Din Tai Fung this is going to be my very first time, I’m super pumped. By the way, these is not the first store. The actual first store is very nearby and it’s only open for takeaways. And I think I’ll show it to you because I want to show you the original Din Tai Fung store. Thank you so much. Thank you.
Wow! We just received the original ones, five pork xialongbao. Okay, guys, the biggest moment has come Let’s follow the instructions. Take the xialongbao gently by its tip to avoid tearing the delicate wrap. It is very delicate. Okay, we made it!
Bravo, Max! It’s insanely delicate. Can you see the 18 folds?
Beautiful! And with the paper thin wrap
you can almost see through Now, poke a small hole on the side with your chopstick to release the broth. Mamma Mia!
Max, don’t make a mistake. I’ve done it. It releases the juice, the broth. Take a sip of the broth, then enjoy the xialongbao. Be careful because it’s hot. Mamma Mia!
The broth Buon Appetito! Wow, wow! You can really tell that it’s homemade. It’s fresh. I love the rich broth, the rich soup. You can taste the pork.
and it’s so delicate. Super flavourful. Thank you so much. These are the siumai with pork and shrimp. How cute they look, eh? Now let’s try with the sauce.
Directly dip it into the sauce. Place it onto your spoon add some ginger on top and enjoy together with the broth. Let’s go for it. Wow! I really love the contrast between vinegar and ginger. It’s almost medicinal and refreshing at the same time. These are explosive. This is actually not a regular restaurant. I thought, so far, since there are so many branches, their quality wouldn’t have been that good, as well as the service, but So far This to me it is categorised as fine dining. 10-star service. I’m impressed.
Wow! Okay, now let’s go for the siumai, pork and shrimp siumai. The presentation is gorgeous. It’s actually a good battle between the two. This one is very delicious because you got the pork inside that is very soupy somehow it’s even soupier than the xialongbao. And then you got on top the explosion of the prawn that completely pops in your mouth. That was unexpected. I thought this one was going to be the star, but Maybe the siumai is underrated. Let’s try this one because that waitress recommended it to me, spicy pickled cucumber. Not too spicy but refreshing. Oh!
No, no, yup. The spiciness comes afterwards. Now, I’m really curious about this house special which is made with glass noodles, tofu, seaweed, and more. It’s like a cool salad. I think something has been pickled. There is a bit of chilli, you got crunchiness from the seaweed, tofu. Nice texture from the noodles. I love these dishes, especially outside is 35 degrees under the shade. This is amazing. Now, spicy sesame and peanut sauce with noodles. They got dry a little bit because, of course, we’re filming. Oh, let’s mix everything up.
Oh..Nice! We got green onions,
oh..nice and saucy, thick. Beautiful.
These are my kind of noodles. These were calling my name. As soon as I read the menu I said “Max, you need to have it” Buon Appetito! Oh, yeah. Oh! You can taste the peanuts. It’s very nutty, thick, a bit spicy. I love the noodles, it’s a bit chewy. Oh, it’s underrated dish. Just the right amount of chilli, perfect texture of the noodles. and perfect thickness of the sauce. And Sherly behind the camera knows how much I love noodles with sesame and peanut sauce. These are Yes, illegal. So now, actually, I don’t know which one is my favourite. because I was thinking the siumai actually were my favourite, but, maybe the noodles now. I guess I can come back for both.
Amazing! But we also have a couple of desserts just after we finish this. The desserts are here, they are very different. We have snow mushroom sweet soup. It’s cold. I actually don’t really know what’s inside, but I’ve been told that they pour some sugar on top and I need to mix it.
Look at this. It’s maybe some jelly stuff and some fruits, maybe? Beautiful. That’s the refreshing thing that we need that the end. And now we have the golden lava buns. They’re super hot. I’ve been told to have them immediately. It’s piping hot. Oh, my God. You can taste egg, it’s almost buttery, custardy, egg yolk, almost salted egg. It’s actually a mix between sweet and salty. This is my favourite. I tried a very similar one before and I absolutely loved it. I’m actually addicted. They’re actually very generous with the filling. I’m about to say a massive statement. This is our last video here in Taiwan of this amazing series. I know where we’re going tonight, but I just want to say right now. This is my favourite restaurant in Taiwan. It’s just amazing. From service to high quality ingredients, skilled chefs, ambience, just a wonderful place. Now let’s try the sweet soup with jelly stuff, snow mushrooms and fruits, I believe. I don’t know what I’m chewing, but it’s a bit smoky, it’s unique. I love the jelly consistency. It’s actually not too sweet, just refreshing. After that spicy noodles and all the other dishes, the xiaolongbao, the siumai, What a meal we’ve had! Even Sherly behind the camera is impressed by this place. This is a place I will come back a million times. It’s also family friendly. I can imagine myself, bringing my family here and celebrating something, celebrating life, birthdays, and whatever. Amazing. Hey, guys!
Just a quick one. This is the original store, which is 200 metres away from the restaurant we were at. It’s just on the other side of the road. And over here it’s only take away, get your stuff, bring it home or the office and enjoy it. Having said so, we’re going to take a walk and see you in a bit. We made it to Nanjichang market. I heard a very good things about this place and I already spotted a place over here, busy, full, they serve dishes that got me very curious. So let’s give it a go. Our first meal has arrived and it’s already a very important one. What do we have? This is called tube sticky rice with pork, I believe. and almost orange soup at the bottom. This is very interesting. I saw pretty much everyone ordering one. So this caught my eyes. Then here we have braised pork serve on top of rice. It looks fantastic as well. Then we have a nice soup to wash everything down. Oh, nice! It’s quite full. I thought there was no meat, it’s mega stuffed. And then over here,
oh my God, that’s a massive serve. We have pork trotter.
Look at this beauty. And what I love about this place is as soon as you enter the market it’s mega packed It’s impossible it doesn’t catch you eyes. And everyone is super friendly. Fast service, they make everything in front of you. Top! Now I’m starving, so let’s go for it. Let’s start with sticky rice. It’s quite a good piece. Let’s give it a try. So hot!
Woah It’s so soothing. I think that’s mushroom, yes. I think that’s mushroom There is mushroom in it.
I can taste mushroom. It’s comforting and really shooting. I think the sauce on the bottom, the thick orange sauce is quite sweet. This is something that it’s impossible to hate. It’s super comforting.
I love it. Oh!
It’s sweet. And everyone is ordering one. The ones next to us are having one. For sure this is one of the main dishes. Now, the braised pork with rice. It disintegrates in your mouth completely. I love it. It has that sweet after taste. Oh, my God! I love the pork, braised, sweet and fatty. It melts in your mouth completely. Now let’s go for the pork trotter.
Look at this Woah…! Bombed of flavour!
Bombed! This is one of the best pig trotter that I ever had. Oh my goodness.
An explosion of flavours! And I love this place, it’s so loud, so hectic. So much action.
Look at that. Behind us they are non stop working Look They keep on making and people keep on coming. It’s crazy.
This place is crazy. Now to wash everything down we got a soup. Let’s go for it. Oh, there’s a lot of meat in it. And also bones. I bet they use organ because it has a bit of an odour. Oh yeah, it tastes like intestine. But this is perfect to wash everything down. Oh yeah, the food is good.
It’s comfort food. Pork, sticky rice, a bit sweet so you have that nice sweet and savoury contrast Then you got that soup to wash everything down. What a great start here at the market. Second stop tonight we basically just following the queue. Okay? This place is busy, they sell drinks. We didn’t have a drink before. I’m thirsty. And they sell bubble tea which is Sherly behind the camera is completely addicted to. So, let’s give it a go. All right, here I got my drink,
but I just realised that, the special of this place is fresh milk. So it’s not the famous bubble tea. So what I ordered is fresh milk, brown sugar, bubbles or tapioca balls, and grass jelly. It’s quite busy and also the market is pretty dark, there’s not much light I can’t even find my wife sometimes Which is I don’t know if it’s something good or not. All right Here we have the drink. I’m thirsty. See? You got grass jelly, balls, milk. It’s refreshing, refreshing. It’s rich. And also what I notice is that I haven’t seen a single Westerner apart from myself. They are all locals.
It’s pretty cool. Everyone seems to be extremely chilled and welcoming. I love it. We found this gentleman selling this unique snack. Pig blood cake covers in this thick sauce, maybe peanuts and cilantro. Wow! It’s super unique. I’ve never seen anything like this. Look at this black pig blood sausage covered in a thick brown sauce, peanuts, cilantro and chilli. It’s super unique. Let’s give it a try. It’s actually bloody nice. Wow! Where is he? So good, very good! And off he goes He’s the customer that said you should try it because it’s delicious. Oh, my goodness. It’s insane. It’s like sticky rice. It’s peanutty, then you’ve got that nice,
creamy, thick brown sauce. It’s good! Oh, my God.
It’s so good. It’s one of the best dishes that I’ve had tonight. The brown sauce is unbelievable. It’s with peanuts, it’s like peanut butter. Unbelievable.
Look! Pig blood cake Unbelievable. What kind of snack? From sounding and looking extreme to make it like a dessert. Unbelievable. Another location another dish and this time is steamed dumplings Look at this. Family owned business, they make them here right inside of the place. Super cool, super nice. You got greeted by grandpa and grandma working hard there, steaming and boiling the dumplings. So cool. I was really looking forward
to having some dumplings. I think I found the right spot. We got some chilli here. Actually, I don’t know what’s inside, but I believe pork and chives or pork and cabbage. Let’s dip it into the chilli. Woah..Nice! Buon Appetito! Amazing, oh! Look at this.
Maybe, pork and shrimps? Generous filling. And what I love is this skin, which thick in here and very thin all around it. That’s my kind of dumpling. I absolutely love it. You can tell that they make them here, so fresh. Even the chilli oil they make it here. Everything is just super simple, very simple place with only locals. The gentleman over there is so sweet Look at that. Slowly, slowly, he takes his time, he cooks the dumplings, so sweet. I love this family owned businesses You got everyone involved from the family. I absolutely love it. We stopped to another very busy place. We could smell it from a kilometre away. Of course, they sell stinky tofu. But this one is going to be a challenge. How?
I’ll tell you immediately. Well, first of all, you can choose how spicy they going to make it for you. Super, very, medium, light, barely, not spicy. Of course, we’re going to choose the super spicy one. Then we’re going to have it with noodles. In here they say super spicy. That’s what they say.
Will survive? Stick around. Thank you!
Attention, please. The final bomb is here. This is my ultimate challenge. Stinky tofu super mega spicy. So on our first video here in Taiwan
we had fried stinky tofu and it didn’t really go as expected, okay? Yes, that was very smelly, so, I really didn’t like it. But I say, do you know what? Max, you have to give it another chance. Okay? This is going to be my final meal of the last video of our series. Steamed tofu, ultra mega spicy with noodles. It’s super smelly. Okay, let’s try the broth. When I ordered it the waitress was laughing. She said “Oh my God, this is super spicy.
Are you sure?” I said “Yes, I want to try” They are looking at me. Okay, let’s try the broth. I’m scared. Okay. It’s a different type of spicy It’s not immediately spicy,
it’s just hits your throat afterwards. It’s quite rich, salty, savoury. Okay, let’s try the tofu now. Oh my God, the tofu is intense. Oh, mamma mia,
I’m doing it. I can’t believe I’m doing it. Oh! Okay. Okay, Max.
You handled it very well as a man. Okay? Yes. Okay. It’s spicy and my throat is on fire. It smells like putrid cheese. Not to say it’s like, beep, beep! It’s very intense and I don’t think I can get used to it. Now, let’s try the noodles. Oh, my God. This is the ultimate noodle bowl. Mix everything up. Oh, my God.. This really is the ultimate noodle bowl. Let’s try the noodles. Whoa, oh! Oh, my God. Wow! This is a dish that humbles you in any possible way. The final boss in life if it was a dish that would have been super spicy stinky tofu. This is a challenge that I dare everyone to take. Super, mega, spicy, stinky tofu. And I close it like this. Since last time you really loved the fried stinky tofu, you should give us a nice review. -Okay, let me try. It’s very spicy Very spicy? It’s very intense and the texture is like feta cheese. Yes, it’s like super strong feta cheese, yes. Do you like it? I like the first one, actually. Would you try this one again, or? Maybe I will try, but not spicy. I actually prefer this one. I mean, I’m not a fan, but out of the two, I prefer this one. Thanks for the review, amore mio! All right, guys, this is the end of our video. We just ended it with the super, hyper, smelly, spicy, stinky tofu. What a way to end it, eh? It was that smelly
that it is still in my mouth. Do you know what I mean? What a way to end the video and what a way to end our trip here in Taiwan. First time in Taiwan. We always wanted to come and it’s a bit sad because we loved it, we loved it. What a massive eye opening. This country is great, full of amazing people. Great food, clean, safe, top infrastructure, it’s really, really a good country. It’s liveable, I can see myself living here. Let’s see what is going to happen one day. We will come back 100%.
