I decided to experiment with an easy chili and beans recipe for dinner. It turned out to be an Instant Pot fail, but a win for dinner!

2 tsp smoked paprika
1 1/2 tsp granulated garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
3 Tbsp tomato paste
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
1 envelope of beef onion soup mix seasoning
2 (15 oz) cans of Ranch Style beans

Chili With Beans Recipe

38件のコメント

  1. That was different. I like my chili with more juice unless I am making it for foot longs. I use beer in place of the water and rarely put beans in but once and awhile I crave them. I like mine spicy so it usually has jalapenos and a few Habanaros in it. I would have snarfed that down like a champ tho. Glad you are not afraid to talk about the mistakes, it helps us too. I have lots of dry beans, I might give this a try in the future.

  2. I don't have an instant pot and not planning to get one any time soon. For now I just prefer to use my pots on the stovetop the old fashioned way. It seems more satisfying to me. I'm not sure about those modern contraptions. So glad this chili was saved!

  3. The dreaded "burn" notice! I've been through this. You have to scrape the entire bottom of the pot after browning anything and before pressure cooking. I use a nylon spatula with a flat end to scrape the bottom. Liquids help, so meat, spices, water (or stock), scrape, hopefully you can see the clean bottom, then beans, etc. The bottom of the pot must be totally free of fond or the IP "thinks" it's burning.

  4. Tomato anything will give a burn notice, tomatoes always go on top of everything without mixing in until cooking time is done…there is the Instant Pot Community page on FB. I use that page, people are so helpful

  5. The problem was stirring everything together. If you add the water right after you saute the beef, and make sure you scrape the bottom to be sure nothing is stuck, then layer the other ingredients on top WITHOUT stirring, you won't get the burn notice. Stir it all together AFTER it's done to blend your flavors. I love my IP, in fact I have 3 of them. 🙂

  6. Excessive use of throwaway paper bowls. Perhaps save the environment a bit of stress and put all seasonings on a washable plate and still have video pizazz?

  7. I don’t sauté my ground beef in the electric pressure cooker – I put a cup of water in and a rack and then put the whole pound of beef/turkey/chicken on the rack and basically steam it. I saw another cook on YouTube do this and it works quickly and well for me and I don’t get that burn notice! TFS.

  8. Can you try Making cornish hens in an air fryer. Not the ones that look like a toaster oven/convection oven. Please… thanks 😊.

  9. I've seen 3 stories of those instant pots blowing up and sending women to ICU burn ward with 3rd degree burns all over their faces, chest and hands. I think I will continue cooking old school stove and crock pot!!!

  10. I have never had the "burn" notice but this was a good exercise in "Don't Panic Mr Mainwaring" (UK TV Dads Army), thank you. Personally if something needs a long simmer I use my Tefal Multi Cooker in "Slow Cook" mode which gives a nice gentle bubble.
With some of the Mexican words you wrap your tonsils around I thought Worcestershire would have been a doddle. 🙂

  11. I made this! It was uh….mazing! Tasted like it had been simmering all day! I’m going to try and double it next time because it was eaten so fast!
